Mr. Kaplan fraudulently and illegally identified himself as a member of Congresswoman Eshoo’s staff during the Contact Congress Teleconference organized by the Rebuilding Alliance. Congresswoman Eshoo’s chief of staff, Mr. Jason Mahler, confirmed that Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives notified him by mail that his actions were illegal.

This is outrageous. As a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors I clearly see how Mr. Kaplan has put serious journalists at risk with this type of activity which discredits all of us who take investigative journalism seriously and also seek to remain ethical.

Chip, see the other topic on Lee Kaplan. He weigh’s in personally and denies making the “outrageous” claim that you cite. He also elaborates on other information presented in the blog that he feels are either wrong or misleading.

Chip can’t be much of an investigative journalist if he believes everything he reads. I wonder if he reports on aliens sighted from outer space because some moron writes he saw them on his own blog. By the way, Chip, you give yourself away using expressions like “neo-McCarthyite” to describe Horowitz’s blog. You’re no journalist.

The above passage is simply not true. Mr. Mahler is however a fellow traveler with the RBA . If Mr. Mahler said such a thing, he is incompetent and a liar.
